50,000 new permanent residents promised

THE New Zealand Immigration Service today announced the updated permanent residence goals for 2009/2010 under the New Zealand Residence Programme (NZRP).

The NZRP contains permanent residence numbers set by Government to meet New Zealand’s ongoing skills requirements and humanitarian commitments.

The number of places available to migrants for each year ending 30th June is reviewed by the cabinet each year.

For 2009/10 the NZRP is set at the same level as for 2008/09, 45,000 – 50,000 approved places.

This includes:

  • Skilled/Business stream (approximately 26,800 – 29,950 places)

  • Parent, Adult Child and Adult Sibling policies of the Family Sponsored stream (approximately 4,950 – 5,500 places)

  • Partner and Dependent Child policies of the Family Sponsored stream (uncapped, estimated to be about 9,900 – 10,700 places for planning purposes), and

  • International /Humanitarian stream (approximately 3,350 – 3,850 places).

need any web designers over there? ;)

IT and computer related skills are always in the essential skills list and visas, work permits and the like are usually avaiable when you get a job offer.

Many of the British friends we have here are in IT in some shape or form.

I want one of those places for my brother :) Application nearly ready (its taken 3 weeks to get the medicals done in New Zealand).

A whole 50,000 places for next year?! Well yippee, if only NZ could keep those people in the country.
For all the money thrown at NZIS, net actual emigration to NZ since 1957 has only been 200,000.
That's it. Approx four years worth of quota. In the last 50 years.

Interesting point. There's an article about this in the Dominion this weekend. In the "your weekend" supplement and called Ping Pong Poms. I like the title but I have a feeling the Pom thing is getting to annoy a sizeable section of the UK community.

"I'd rather be skint in NZ with the beautiful beaches and ocean, than in..." (my country of origin).

I'm not utterly certain I'd concur with that...

But a few quid and beautiful beaches would work.

Trying to find the PPP article and failing - will just have to buy the paper.
IMHO - I dislike the POHM moniker - more than anything since it's in accurate.
I'm not a POHM, the original Aussie's and their descendants are.
Still there we go, never let the truth get in the way of a good name calling.
